NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC
Notice is hereby given that the City of Sarasota's First Election for the purpose of electing two (2) City Commissioners to fill two At-Large Seats shall be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, and if necessary, a runoff on Tuesday, May 9, 2017. The following resolution designates the location of the polling places; and authorizes the Mayor to appoint clerks, inspectors and officers:
RESOLUTION NO. 17R-2617
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SARASOTA, FLORIDA, CALLING FOR THE FIRST MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON MARCH 14, 2017, AND THE SECOND MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON MAY 9, 2017, IF REQUIRED, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING TWO AT-LARGE CITY COMMISSIONERS FOR A TERM OF FOUR YEARS; SETTING FORTH THE LOCATION OF THE POLLING PLACES; AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO APPOINT THE CLERKS, INSPECTORS AND OFFICERS FOR THE ELECTION; PROVIDING FOR READING OF THIS RESOLUTION BY TITLE ONLY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the term of the two City Commissioners who occupy the two at-large seats on the City Commission of the City of Sarasota, Florida, will expire on May 12, 2017; and
WHEREAS, Article IX, Section 5 of The Charter of the City of Sarasota, provides for the First Municipal Election to be held on March 14, 2017, and the Second Municipal Election to be held on May, 9, 2017, if required, for the purpose of electing two At-Large City Commissioners for a period of four years; and
WHEREAS, Article I, Section 12-4 of The Code of the City of Sarasota, calls for the City Commission to designate the polling places and authorizes the Mayor to appoint the Clerks, Inspectors, and Officers to staff the City's polling places.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SARASOTA, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The First Municipal Election shall be held on March 14, 2017, and the Second Municipal Election shall be held on May 9, 2017, if required, as provided by The Charter of the City of Sarasota, for the purpose of electing two At-Large City Commissioners to serve for a four year term in the seats now held by Suzanne Atwell and Susan Chapman.
Section 2. For the First Municipal Election, and Second Municipal Election, if required, the following polling places are designated:
PRECINCT 109: Light of the World International Church - 3809 Chapel Drive
PRECINCT 111: Light of the World International Church - 3809 Chapel Drive
PRECINCT 115: Robert L. Taylor Community Center - 1845 34th Street
PRECINCT 123:First Brethren Church of Sarasota - 150 N Shade Avenue
PRECINCT 125:Fellowship of Believers - 3333 12th Street
PRECINCT 129: First Brethren Church of Sarasota - 150 N Shade Avenue
PRECINCT 131: Oakwood Manor Clubhouse - 3330 Fruitville Road
PRECINCT 203: First Baptist Church - 1661 Main Street
PRECINCT 205: City of Sarasota Municipal Auditorium - 801 N. Tamiami Trail
PRECINCT 207: City of Sarasota Municipal Auditorium - 801 N. Tamiami Trail
PRECINCT 209: First Presbyterian Church - 2050 Oak Street
PRECINCT 211: St. Armands Key Lutheran Church - 40 N Adams Drive

Section 3. As authorized by Section 12-4 of The Code of the City of Sarasota, Florida, the Mayor, or in his absence, the Vice Mayor shall appoint the necessary clerks, inspectors and officers for the election in the event the City Commission fails to make the appointments or if any such clerks, inspectors or officers are unavailable.
Section 4. The polls on the Election Day shall open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m.
Section 5. In accordance with Article I, Section 12-4, The Code of the City of Sarasota, the City Auditor and Clerk shall forthwith cause a resolution to be published two times, once in the fifth week and once in the third week prior to the week of the election, in the Sarasota Herald Tribune, a newspaper published in the City and County of Sarasota, Florida, and duly qualified to print legal advertisements setting forth the location of the City's polling places.
Section 6. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption.
ADOPTED by the City Commission of the City of Sarasota, Florida, upon reading by title only, after posting on the bulletin board at City Hall for at least three (3) days prior to reading, as authorized by Article IV, Section 2(h), Charter of the City of Sarasota, Florida, this _3rd day of January, 2017.

This is the first of two (2) required legal publications. The second legal publication will appear on Friday, February 24, 2017. Said resolution is on file in the Office of the City Auditor and Clerk at City Hall, 1565 First Street, Sarasota, Florida for public inspection from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Early voting for the First Election will be held Monday, March 6, 2017 through Saturday, March 11, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will take place at the Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Office, 2001 Adams Lane, Sarasota, Florida. If a runoff is required, early voting for the runoff will be held Monday, May 1, 2017 through Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will take place at the Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Office, 2001 Adams Lane, Sarasota, Florida.
