Air & Water Quality
Project No. 1150153-006-AC
Sarasota County
Glueck's Auto Parts - Metal Recycling
4801 Preymore St., Sarasota, Florida 34229

On May 5, 2023, Sarasota County Air & Water Quality (AWQ) received an air construction permit application from Glueck's Auto Parts II that is subject to Rule 62-4, 62-204, 62-210, 62-296 and 62-297 Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.). Glueck's Auto Parts II requests authority to install a metal shredder, mobile ferrous separation system, and a mobile eddy current separator at the automobile salvage/parts facility. The proposed metal shredder will have a design capacity of processing 20 tons/hour of motor vehicles and parts and the applicant is proposing to operate the shredder for 2,080 hours/year at the facility. The air permit application and associated documents can be accessed in electronic form at the following link: https://fldep.dep.state.fl.us/air/emission/apds/default.asp by entering project number 1150153-006-AC.

Based on the application, the proposed shredder system includes a hammer mill, a mobile ferrous separation system to separate ferrous and non-ferrous metals, and a mobile eddy current separator to separate metals by type. The shredding mill will be used for size reduction of motor vehicles and parts. The shredder will be powered by a 1,125 HP, CAT C32, diesel-powered engine manufactured in 2018 Tier 4 compliant or later. The ferrous separation system will be powered by a CAT XQ 125 kw, diesel generator set. The eddy current separator system will be powered by a CAT XQ 60 kVA diesel generator set. The shredder is equipped with four water spray injection manifolds at the shredder hammer to reduce particulate matter (PM) emissions and cool the hammer and which will provide approximately 24-40 gallons of water per minute. The mobile ferrous separation system uses an air knife and a centrifugal cyclone separator with double vortex airflow to separate the light fluff material from the shredded scrap metal. The mobile eddy current separator uses a magnetic field to separate non-ferrous metals by material type.

The application is under review by AWQ to determine whether it is complete. For questions related to this air permit application, please contact Mr. Robert J. Stewart, Project Engineer, by telephone at (941) 861-0912 or by e-mail at [email protected].
